We aim to create new opportunities for communities to improve social structures and local economy through participatory design.
We promote the use of natural materials and traditional techniques with a contemporary approach.
We believe design and the act of building could be used as a tool to empower communities and lead to a better and sustainable future. To achieve this, we engage with participatory sustainable design and building practices.
We task our self with co-creating liveable environments whilst striving to reduce human pressure on the environment and minimize use of resources. In so doing, we aim to promote use of local traditions, materials and crafts.
We measure the success of our engagements in their benefit to their primary users, the community and their impact on the surrounding context - as a means to empower, enrich and enhance lives - as well as in their environmental sensitivity.
Collaborative working, respect and solidarity to the people we work with and sensitivity towards the different cultures we work within are our highest priorities.
We are down-to-earth people
We like natural materials and participatory architecture
We keep it simple
We are terre à terre
terre à terre asbl was founded in 2020 by a group of international designers.
They came together after building the Women’s House of Ouled Merzoug, Morocco, in 2019 during the postgraduate program Building beyond borders,
at the UHasselt.
Having had this experience, we decided to join forces and pursue our shared passion of employing architecture for societal and environmental betterment.
